Tips for a photo that gets accepted
  • Stand about 1 m from a wall, face a window or soft light — no shadows on your face.
  • Ask someone to take it at eye level, from about 1.2 m away. Selfies at arm's length distort the face.
  • Include your head and the top of your shoulders, with space above your head.
  • Neutral face, mouth closed, eyes open, hair away from your eyes. Remove glasses.

Passport size photo size in cm, inches and pixels

There is no single “passport size”. Most countries use 35×45 mm, the US uses 2×2 inches, and a few use their own sizes. The most common ones:

Why the size depends on the document, not where you live

Every country sets its own photo rules for its passports and visas. If you live in Pakistan and apply for a Portugal visa, you need a Portugal (Schengen) visa photo — 35×45 mm with the head 32–36 mm tall — not a Pakistani passport photo. A US visa needs a 2×2 inch square instead. Choose the document you are applying for and the tool uses that country's rules.
